Poetry Friday – A Few Poetry Goals

It’s Friday! And you know what that means: Poetry! Want to know more about Poetry Friday? Click this link right here. And be sure to check out Carol’s Corner to see this week’s round up of wonderful poetry related posts, blogs and goodness.

Hello, Happy New Year and Happy Poetry Friday! I feel like I have not posted in ages and ages. It has been nice having the whole family home during the holidays, but I am looking forward to routine returning when school and work begins again next week.

The doctor may have finally figured out why I have been so gosh darn tired lately (other than having two younger kids).

It’s nothing serious and easily fixable, so nothing to worry about. I won’t know for sure for a few months, but I am hoping it all gets resolved because my writing has suffered.

With the new year comes new goals. I sometimes feel bashful about admitting that I set New Years resolutions because so many people seem to roll their eyes. But I’ll take any chance I get to revisit and reevaluate my goals and progress. Onward and upward, I say. And, while I do not always accomplish my goals in the year, I do regularly check in with them.

I always set out to get 100 rejections within the year. I have never hit that goal, but it does get me to submit submit submit! I got 26 rejections last year, but I also had 4 poems published. So again this year, I will strive for those 100 rejections and maybe I’ll get a few “yes’s (yeses?) along the way.

I am hoping to get ga poem a week written too. I am in awe of those who write a poem a day. I also want to just have more fun writing poetry. I find that every time I sit down to write a poem I think it has to be all serious. And it takes me awhile to get past that because I am just not that serious of a person. I like funny silly things. So I want to write more poetry like that.

I was trying to find a good poem to share today, but I absolutely loved the Maya Angelou poem that Carol shared over on her blog. So if you haven’t had a chance, go and check it out. She is hosting Poetry Friday this week too, so there are all sorts of great stuff to see. Here’s to a great 2020!

  1. Happy 2020, Rebecca! I love your goals! I am in the middle of working more poetry writing into my life, too. My submissions suffered a bit in 2019 with all the book promotion stuff, and I need to really get back on track! I’m sick right now, too, so not feeling super motivated. Thanks for the lovely kick in the patootie!
