Poetry Friday – Random Poetry Generator

It’s Friday! And you know what that means: Poetry! Want to know more about Poetry Friday? Click this link right here. And be sure to check out Michelle Kogan’s blog to see this week’s round up of wonderful poetry related posts, blogs and goodness.

Hello and Happy Poetry Friday! I am off to the SCBWI Orlando Mid-Year Workshop today, but I wanted to share a fun little site that I found earlier this week.

Did you know that there is a random poem generator? You pick the poetry form, and then the site has you fill in some information, sort of like Mad Libs. Then it will spit a poem out for you, complete with bogus rave reviews for your new poem. I had a fun time playing around with the site. Below are a few. If you try it out, be sure to leave it in the comments for me to read!

Tanka:

I love my monster
It is so slimy and hunched.
With a dripping grin
And three leaking eyeballs too
When it laughs I feel happy

Quick Poem:

The Old and Good Book

Whose book is that? I think I know.
Its owner is quite sad though.
It really is a tale of woe,
I watch her frown. I cry hello.

She gives her book a shake,
And sobs until the tears make.
The only other sound’s the break,
Of distant waves and birds awake.

The book is old, good and deep,
But she has promises to keep,
Until then she shall not sleep.
She lies in bed with ducts that weep.

She rises from her bitter bed,
With thoughts of sadness in her head,
She idolises being dead.
Facing the day with never ending dread.

Didactic Cinquain:

Poetry
Fun, difficult
Write, rhyme, read
Ever so lyric

  1. I played around a bit with the generator, but my ideas must have been too esoteric. Yours turned out GREAT!! I’ll have to stick with my own brain!!

  2. I especially like “The book is old, good and deep,
But she has promises to keep,
Until then she shall not sleep.
She lies in bed with ducts that weep.”

Hope your workshop was fun and useful!
