I was pretty intimidated when Matt started the poem out this year with a challenge to only use found lines. The first few days had me biting my nails and I knew I had to find a way to bring some silliness into the process.
I saw that some people were finding lines from songs of their youth. Well, I am a child of the 90s. I really wanted to find some good lines from Backstreet Boys or *NSYNC, but I just couldn’t find any that worked. So instead, I present my 90s found line from the Spice Girls’ “Wannabe” and Will Smith’s “Gettin’ Jiggy Wit It”.
Endless summer; I can see for miles…
Fun, fun, fun – and the whole world smiles
No time for school- just time to play
we swim the laughin’ sea each and every day
You had only to rise, lean from your window,
the curtain opens on a portrait of today:
Kodachrome greens, dazzling blue
it’s the chance of a lifetime
Make it last forever–ready? Set? Let’s Go!
Found Lines:
L1 The Who, ‘I Can See for Miles’ / The Beach Boys, ‘Endless Summer’
L2 The Beach Boys, ‘Fun, Fun, Fun’ / Dean Martin, ‘When You’re Smiling’
L3 The Jamies, ‘Summertime, Summertime’
L4 The Doors ‘Summer’s Almost Gone’/ Led Zeppelin ‘Good Times, Bad Times’
L5 Ray Bradbury, Dandelion Wine “You had only to rise, lean from your window,”
L6 Joni Mitchell, “Chelsea Morning”
L7 Paul Simon, “Kodachrome,” “Dazzling Blue”
L8 Dan Fogelberg, “Run for the Roses”
L9 Spice Girls, “Wannabe”/ Will Smith, “Gettin’ Jiggy Wit It”
And now, I pass the poetry baton to Janet!

“Let’s Go”! Can’t wait to see where we go!

Two catchy classics that deserve their place in fine literature!! For any who might not be familiar, I offer these links:

“Gettin’ Jiggy Wit’ It” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kavAiy817vg (background music for a very adorable video of my preschoolers dancing in the playroom so many years ago)
And yes, I’m “ready, set, let’s go”–we can’t stay in here looking out the curtained window forever! : )

Hi Rebecca!
Your line is really where the action is.
Appreciations for such a jaunty feel for Line 10.
