Poetry Friday – Postcards and a Giveaway

It’s Friday! And you know what that means: Poetry! Want to know more about Poetry Friday? Click this link right here. And be sure to check out Jone’s blog, Deowriter, to see this week’s round up of wonderful poetry related posts, blogs and goodness.

Hello and Happy Poetry Friday! I am off today to Universal with my family to celebrate my daughter’s 10th birthday! How is it possible for her to be into 2-digits already?

Last week, I posted a picture of my adventure themed costume for the SCBWI Miami Conference. I thought I’d include a reference photo this week for those of you who have never seen Sloth from the 80s movie, The Goonies.

I also want to share all of the wonderful postcards that have arrived over the past weeks. Each one was such a treasure to receive and they brightened my day every time. So THANK YOU! And thank you to Jone for organizing the swap. I feel like I have made so many friends through poetry and I am so grateful for it.

And lastly, while not poetry related, I wanted to share a giveaway that I am doing. I will be giving away a copy of Fresh Princess by and Gladys Jose. If you’d like to enter, please click on this link and leave a comment on the giveaway post.

  1. I’m sure I saw The Goonies, but just don’t remember the pic! My younger granddaughter celebrated her ‘half’ birthday this week, was so excited she could now say she was eight and a half! Birthdays are special, and double-digit ten is VERY special. Yes, those postcards are wonderful to receive, I agree. Happy weekend!

  2. Thanks for the background knowledge about Sloth, Becky. Is this character why your blog is called Sloth Reads! You were not on my list to send out a Poetry Postcard but I shared it on PF today for all those who did not receive one from me. The book giveaway is great. Thanks for sharing that book. I looked it up that the the “Fresh Princess is the perfect book to encourage kids to proudly stand out and be themselves!” What a great statement. Books like these are needed in classrooms.

    1. Actually, the sloth in “Sloth Reads” is just because I love the animal–it is my favorite. My roller derby name was Sloth as well, for the same reason. But then one day, I realized that my favorite Goonies character was also called Sloth! It just worked out that way. 🙂

  3. Happy Birthday to your daughter! Oh, I remember turning double digits so well. It’s such a milestone…until you realize that you are really still a kid and kid rules still apply. LOL! I love how you displayed your postcards in a collage. I’m collage happy these days. Fresh Princess looks great!

  5. Happy birthday to your daughter. My younger daughter turns 25 tomorrow–that’s hard for me to believe, too. I never saw that movie, but the costume sure looks fun! And thanks for sharing all the wonderful postcards, too.
