Poetry Friday – Winter Poetry Swap 2018 pt 1

It feels like it has been forever since I have done anything here on the blog. Back in October, my family was hit with a double whammy of car troubles and serious illness. With all the stress and other emotions that usually accompany these types of things, I had to take an abrupt hiatus.

I finally feel like I am starting to get my bearings once again. So now my attention has turned to trying to catch up on two and a half months worth of blog posts. Then today I decided to give myself an early Christmas present. I am giving myself permission to not catch up at all. Instead, I’ll just hop right back on in and go forward.

During all the craziness of the past little while, I was incredibly grateful for Tabatha’s Winter Poetry Swap. It was so nice to have a commitment that made me set aside some time to be creative. I needed that. So, thank you Tabatha for helping me keep my sanity during a difficult time!

I got Kathryn Apel’s name and I was so excited to send a package off to Australia. I was worried that she wouldn’t get it before Christmas, but it made it! It’s incredible how fast things can move around the world.

I was happy to hear that of the three poems I sent to Kathryn, the cardinal cherita was her favorite. It was mine too. You can read it below. I have cardinal pair that visit my bird feeder here in Florida. But, alas, no snow.

  4. I’m glad that you are feeling like things are settling in a bit better, Rebecca. I did love your cherita, miss those ‘red hot coals’ here in Colorado. I grew up in Missouri seeing them all the time, did not know they weren’t everywhere. Happy Holidays!

  8. Oh, how wonderful to compare a cardinal to a red hot coal! They do glow so brilliantly in contrast to white snow. I hope that the road ahead is smoother for you and your family and that plenty of cardinals visit to brighten your days!

  10. You made the right choice not to try to catch up, but to just hop back in and move forward. Glad to hear things have settled down some for you and yours. LOVE your cardinal poem. Gorgeous photo.
